Cougars jump to No. 17/18 in polls

PROVO, Utah – Coming off a 2-0 week that included home wins over No. 2 Gonzaga and Santa Clara, BYU men’s basketball jumped to No. 17 in the Associated Press Top 25 and entered the USA Today Coaches Poll at No. 18. The Cougars are ranked in the AP Poll for a second-straight week and enter the USA Today Coaches Poll for the first time since ending the 2010-11 season ranked No. 12.

In addition to moving up in the polls, BYU was also named the NCAA March Madness Team of the Week by Andy Katz.

Head coach Mark Pope and the Cougars have won eight-straight games and are 23-7 overall and second place in the West Coast Conference at 12-3.

BYU also measures well in several other polls and metrics, coming in at No. 16 at Kenpom.com, No. 18 in ESPN’s College Basketball Power Index, No. 15 in Andy Katz’ Power 36 on NCAA.com, No. 14 in Jeff Goodman’s Top 25 Rankings, No. 17 in the CBSsports.com Top 25 and 1 rankings, No. 14 in Jon Rothstein's CBS Insider Poll, No. 14 in the NCAA Men’s Basketball NET Rankings and No. 18 in the NBC Sports Power Rankings. 

The Cougars conclude the regular season Saturday, Feb. 29, at Pepperdine in Firestone Fieldhouse. Scheduled for a 3 p.m. PST tip, the game will be televised live on CBS Sports Network. The radio broadcast will be available live on the BYU Sports Network, BYU Radio – Sirius XM 143/89.1 FM HD2 and KSL 102.7 FM/1160 AM.
