PROVO, Utah – BYU junior guard TJ Haws was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District 8 Team on Thursday.

District 8 is made up eight states in the Western region of the United States – Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawai'i, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington. To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average at his current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games.

Academic All-District First Team honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

The Google Cloud Academic All-District 8 team also includes Sam Bittner (Fresno State), Brooks DeBisschop (Northern Arizona), Nate Renfro (San Francisco) and Stephen Thompson Jr. (Oregon State).

Recently named to the West Coast Conference Men’s Basketball All-Academic Team, Haws is averaging 17.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.2 steals per game. The team captain and finance major has posted season highs of 35 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and three steals and leads the Cougars in assists, steals, free-throw percentage and 3-point field goals.

Haws is the first BYU men’s basketball player to earn CoSIDA honors since Eric Mika was named all-district and second-team Academic All-America honors in 2017.
