BYU to host Westminster in exhibition matchup

PROVO, Utah – BYU men’s basketball will play its final regular season tune-up Thursday when it hosts Westminster at 7 p.m. MDT in the Marriott Center.

Thursday’s game will be televised live on BYUtv and broadcast on the BYU Sports Network on BYU Radio– Sirius XM 143, BYUcougars.com and KSL Newsradio 102.7 FM/1160 AM.

The Cougars defeated Saint Martin’s 92-71 on Oct. 24 in their exhibition opener. Yoeli Childs led the way with 20 points and eight rebounds while TJ Haws and Dalton Nixon added 11 points apiece. Haws also distributed a team-best seven assists while Nixon had four steals.

BYU defeated Westminster, an NCAA Division II institution in Salt Lake City, 76-62 in exhibition play last season with Childs posting a double-double of 25 points and 14 rebounds to lead the way.

Norm Parrish enters his fourth season as head coach of Westminster. Last season he led the Griffins to a record of 21-5 overall and 17-5 in league play, tied for second the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Westminster was picked to finish sixth in the 2018-19 RMAC Preseason Poll.

BYU opens the 2018-19 regular season on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at No. 7/9 Nevada at 8 p.m. PST. The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network and broadcast on the BYU Sports Network on BYU Radio– Sirius XM 143, BYUcougars.com and KSL Newsradio 102.7 FM/1160 AM.
