BYU and San Diego State announce two-game series

PROVO, Utah – BYU and San Diego State today announced the schools have agreed to a home-and-home men’s basketball series for 2018 and 2019. 

The first meeting of the series will be at San Diego State in Viejas Arena on Dec. 22, 2018, with the second game being played in the Marriott Center on Nov. 9, 2019.

Former league foes in the Western Athletic Conference and the Mountain West, the Cougars and Aztecs have met 72 times with BYU holding a 48-24 advantage in the all-time series. 

BYU finished the 2017-18 season with an overall record of 24-11 and 11-7 in the West Coast Conference. The Cougars reached the title game of the WCC Championships and received an at-large bid to the NIT. BYU is No. 12 all-time in NCAA history in total victories and has 29 NCAA tournament appearances, 29 regular season conference titles and two national players of the year.

Current head coach Dave Rose is first in school history and seventh among active head coaches in career winning percentage. He has led the Cougars to four conference titles, 13-straight 20-win seasons and 13-straight postseason appearances (eight NCAA, five NIT).

San Diego State, coached by Brian Dutcher, was 22-11 overall and 11-7 in the Mountain West in 2017-18. The Aztecs won the Mountain West Championships to claim an automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
