Childs earns USBWA All-District honors

ST. LOUIS – The U.S. Basketball Writers Association announced today that BYU sophomore forward Yoeli Childs has been named to the USBWA All-District VIII Team. District VIII includes all NCAA Division I institutions from Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.

Childs, an All-West Coast Conference First Team honoree, has led BYU to a 24-10 record and a trip to the title game of the WCC Championships.

The South Jordan, Utah, native has posted averages of 18.0 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.9 blocks while shooting 54.8 percent from the field. Childs has scored 20-plus points 14 times and has 14 double-doubles.

In the semifinals of the WCC Championships, Childs scored a career-high 33 points to lead the Cougars to a win over No. 20 Saint Mary's in the semifinals. In three tournament games, Childs averaged 25.0 points, 7.3 rebounds and hit 58.0 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from downtown to earn a spot on the WCC All-Tournament Team.

The USBWA has selected All-District Teams each year since the 1956-57 season, its founding year. BYU has been represented on USBWA All-District Teams in all but one season since 2003-04.
