SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named BYU guard TJ Haws to the 2017-18 West Coast Conference Men's Basketball All-Academic Team. Cougar forward Luke Worthington also earned WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention.

Haws, a sophomore from Alpine, Utah, has started all 29 games in 2017-18 and is averaging 12.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.3 steals. He has posted season highs of 26 points, six rebounds, eight assists, four steals and two blocks.

Worthington, a junior from Mequon, Wisconsin, has started 23 games and is averaging 4.6 points and 2.7 rebounds while shooting 53.1 percent from the field. A team captain, Worthington has posted season highs of 16 points, six rebounds, three assists, two steals and three blocks.

Last season, three Cougars earned All-Academic Honors. Eric Mika and Davin Guinn were named to the WCC All-Academic Team while Braiden Shaw earned honorable mention.

The 2017-18 list is highlighted by two student-athletes making their third and final, all-academic team appearance.

Loyola Marymount’s Steven Haney and San Francisco’s Chase Foster appear on the squad for the third-straight year while Gonzaga’s Josh Perkins makes his second-consecutive appearance. Three underclassmen earned a spot on the all-academic squad this season.

For the fourth straight year, more than half of student-athletes on the first team make their debuts while two are pursuing Master’s Degrees. All told 16 student-athletes qualified for all-academic consideration.

At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to his team.
