Childs named WCC Player of the Week
SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named BYU sophomore forward Yoeli Childs its Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for January 15, 2018.
Childs led BYU to a pair of wins against Pepperdine (83-63) and at Santa Clara (84-50) while averaging 21.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, 7.0 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals. Childs shot 63.0 percent (17 of 27) from the field for the week.
Against Pepperdine, Childs scored 14 points in the first half and had four assists to help the Cougars to a 40-34 lead at the break. He finished the night with 21 points, 12 rebounds, a then-career-high six assists, one block and three steals.
Childs got off to a hot start against Santa Clara as he had a hand in BYU’s first 17 points by scoring 11 of his own and registering three assists. He finished the first half with 17 points, six rebounds and six assists to lead the Cougars to a 46-28 lead. Childs finished the night with 22 points, 13 rebounds, a career-best eight assists and two blocks.
