PROVO, Utah – BYU men’s basketball coach Dave Rose announced today that juniors Elijah Bryant and Luke Worthington have been named team captains for the 2017-18 season.

“Elijah and Luke are two of our most experienced players and have a great approach to the game,” Rose said. “We’ll rely on them throughout the year to provide leadership in the locker room and on the court.”

Bryant turned in a successful sophomore year in 2016-17, posting averages of 11.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists. His best game came at Portland when he posted career highs of 39 points and seven 3-pointers, leading him to earn conference and national player of the week honors. The Gwinnett, Georgia, native played his freshman season at Elon where he was named the Colonial Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year and earned third-team All-CAA and CAA All-Rookie Team honors.

Worthington is back with the Cougars for his junior season after serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Chile from 2015-17. One of the most experienced players on the roster, Worthington appeared in 64 games and made 24 starts in two seasons prior to his mission. As a sophomore in 2014-15, Worthington started 21 games while helping the Cougars receive an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. Originally from Mequon, Wisconsin, Worthington has career highs of 12 points, six rebounds and two steals.

The Cougars conclude exhibition play tonight against Colorado College at 7 p.m. MST in the Marriott Center. BYU hosts Mississippi Valley State Saturday in the 2017-18 season opener at 7 p.m. MST. Both games will be televised live on BYUtv and broadcast on the BYU Sports Network on BYU Radio Sirius XM 143, BYUcougars.com and KSL Newsradio 102.7 FM/1160 AM.
