Jahshire Hardnett signs a National Letter of Intent to play for BYU

PROVO, Utah – BYU coach Dave Rose announced today that Jahshire Hardnett has signed a National Letter of Intent and will play for the Cougars in 2017-18.

Hardnett, a 6-foot guard from Gulfport, Mississippi, comes to Provo from Chipola College in Marianna, Florida. He will be a sophomore in 2017-18 and have three years of eligibility at BYU.

At Chipola, Hardnett averaged 13.0 points, 2.9 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.8 steals. He shot 56.0 percent from the field and 43.9 percent from the 3-point line and posted season highs of 25 points, eight rebounds, 10 assists and four steals.

The left-handed guard earned All-Panhandle Conference First Team honors while leading the Indians to a 22-8 record. Hardnett was also named the Panhandle Conference Freshman of the Year.

Prior to his one season at Chipola, Hardnett spent a redshirt season in 2015-16 at Fordham in New York. He prepped at Gulfport High School in Gulfport, Mississippi, where he played for Owen Miller for three seasons. As a junior, Hardnett averaged 22.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.6 steals while leading Gulfport to the Mississippi Class 6A state title. Following the season he was named to the Sun Herald’s All-South Mississippi Team and to the Clairon-Ledger’s Dandy Dozen.

As a senior, Hardnett played at Arlington Day School in Jacksonville, Florida, where he averaged 13 points and five rebounds.

Hardnett is the son of Monique Phillips and Michael Hardnett. He has two brothers.
