Mika named WCC Player of the Week for a third time
SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named BYU sophomore Eric Mika its Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for January 23, 2017. This is Mika's third WCC Player of the Week award this season.
Mika, a candidate for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award, led BYU to a 2-0 week that included a home win over Pepperdine (99-70) and a road victory at Pacific (62-47). Mika averaged 19.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks while shooting 51.7 percent from the field and 100.0 percent from the free-throw line.
The Alpine, Utah, native helped BYU to a 51-35 lead at the break with 16 points and seven rebounds in the first half against Pepperdine. He finished the night with 22 points, hitting 9 of 16 from the field and 4 of 4 from the free-throw line. He added 10 rebounds and two blocks.
At Pacific, Mika had another strong first half, totaling eight points and eight boards to go with three blocks. He finished the night with 17 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks for a seventh-straight double-double.
