PLAYER NOTES

Nick Emery went 5-of-11 from 3-point range to extend his streak to 24 consecutive games with at least one 3. That ties him with his older brother Jackson Emery for the third-longest streak in program history. Five 3-pointers tied his season high, which he set against Utah Valley and matched against CSU Bakersfield.

Emery was in double digits by halftime for his 11th game of the year with 10-plus points. He wound up with 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting.

TJ Haws went 4-of-8 from beyond the arc. He now has at least one 3 in eight straight games and 13 of 15 overall. His four 3-pointers and 20 points matched season bests. Haws went 3-of-4 from 3-point range in the second half, and hit a game-tying 3 and one for the lead in the last two minutes.

Yoeli Childs had 15 points, which gave him double figures five times this season – all of which have come in the last seven games. Childs blocked the potential game tying 3-point attempt with 10 seconds left. He now has at least one block in seven straight games and 14 of 15 overall.

Eric Mika's 17 points continued his run of scoring double figures in all 15 games this season. He also had 10 rebounds for his seventh double-double.

TEAM NOTES

The Cougars came back from a 13-point halftime deficit for the win. It's their first win this year after trailing at the half.

BYU shot 35.5 (11-of-31) percent from the field in the first half and 50 percent (15-of-30) in the second half.

Haws put the Cougars up 79-76 with a 3-pointer with 39 seconds left. It was BYU's first lead since they led 3-2.

The Cougars shot better than 40 percent (9-of-21 for 42.9 percent) from 3-point range for the third straight game.

BYU finished the game on an 11-0 run over the last two minutes and 40 seconds.

QUOTES

(From the radio postgame show with Greg Wrubell)

BYU head coach Dave Rose

"It's one of those deals where you lead for 52 seonds in the game and it's the right 52 seconds. I really like this group of guys and you can see them learning as we go at times. It's our first road win and first road league win, so an awesome game for us."

On the defensive adjustment in the second half:

"The biggest difference from the first half to the second half on the defensive end was the fact that they only got four offensive rebounds in the second half after nine in the first half. Getting stops and then limiting them to just one shot really helped us."

On big 3-pointers near the end:

"Nick (Emery) hit a huge one. The one that TJ (Haws) hit coming out of the timeout to tie it, we executed it and he buried the shot. Everything changes, not just for the guy who hits the shot but the four other guys on the court and the bench. The next time you draw one up, you have confidence."

Nick Emery

"We played really well in the second half. The first half got away from us a litle bit and we weren't playing BYU basketball, but we kept our composure and did a great job in the second half."

On what coaches said at halftime:

"They talked about staying positive and keeping our composure. It was exactly what we needed to hear. We listened to coach and learned from our mistakes, and we were able to fight back and pull it off."

On what the win does for the team:

"It's a big confidence boost. We've had some close losses, like against USC and Illinois, and learned to fight back. It was good to fight back and win this time."
