PLAYER NOTES

Eric Mika had 10 points just eight and a half minutes into the game to continue his run of scoring in double digits in every game this season. He finished the game with 19 points.

Steven Beo had a career-high 12 points on 4-of-4 shooting. In the first 11 games of the season, he had three total points. In the last three games, he has totaled 25 points.

TJ Haws had 17 points to reach double-digits for the seventh-straight game. He went 3-of-3 from 3-point range and has now hit at least one 3 in seven straight. His six assists on the night give him five-plus dimes in four straight.

Jamal Aytes had eight points on 4-of-4 shooting. It's his highest-scoring game since his 12 points against Saint Louis on Nov. 21.

With one 3-pointer made, Nick Emery extended his streak of games with a 3-pointer to 23, the fourth longest streak in program history. He also had an early steal and has now recorded at least one steal in 13 of 14 games this season.

Yoeli Childs had one block and has now recorded a swat in 13 of 14 games and seven straight.

Two-sport athlete Corbin Kaufusi appeared in his first game of the 2016-17 season, playing four minutes.

Payton Dastrup had five points on 2-of-5 shooting for his first shot attempts and points since Nov. 23 against Valporaiso.

TEAM NOTES

The Cougars' 64.3 percent (9-of-14) from 3-point range is their best of the season. They were helped to that mark by 3-of-3 performances from Beo and Haws.

BYU finished with a season-low eight turnovers.

After just nine bench points in last game's win against Cal State Bakersfiled, the Cougars scored 30 bench points against the Broncos.

QUOTES

BYU head coach Dave Rose

"I liked the feel of our team tonight. You bring your guys back from a break and wonder what you're going to get. I was really pleased. We put a good first half together and a really good second half. We were patient on offense and made open shots."

On Nick Emery's defense on Jared Brownridge:

"Nick did an excellent job on defense. He reminded me of Jackson (Emery) a little bit. Brownridge doesn't play a lot of games where he doesn't scored in double digits. Nick just didn't give him the opportunities tonight."

On thinking of LaVell Edwards today:

"We all have heavy hearts, especially those who have followed BYU sports for years. We know what he's done for the university and the state of Utah. It's a sad day. He's what I would consider a good personal friend and great supporter of BYU athletics. He always seemed to know where a coach was in the season. When I would see him in March he would have the right words. When I would see him in July he would have the right words. I'll miss him. We all will."

TJ Haws

On the fast start:

"It was really important for us. We got off to a really good start last week (against Cal State Bakersfield) and we wanted to do that again. We were able to and it was really good for us."

On improving from game to game:

"We're getting better. I don't think we've hit our potential yet, but we're in a good flow on offense. We're moving the ball in and out and finding the open man. We're improving every game."

Steven Beo

On where confidence to take 3s comes from:

"It comes a lot from the team basketball we play. The guys are always telling me to shoot if I'm open. It's just team basketball, and the confidence comes naturally when you're playing together."

On the bench's role tonight:

"Coach tells us to be ready to go in. We all knew it was a big game as the first conference game of the year. We're all dialed in on the bench and ready to go. I think we've matured a lot, and players are just ready to step in and do their part."
