Conference play opens with Santa Clara in the Marriott Center

BYU Game Notes

The Cougars return to action Thursday to host Santa Clara in the West Coast Conference opener for both teams at 7 p.m. MST in the Marriott Center. Thursday's game will be televised live on BYUtv and broadcast live on the Cougar IMG Sports Network, 102.7 FM/1160 AM and BYU Radio – Sirius XM 143.

BYU Storylines

  • BYU opens West Coast Conference action Thursday against Santa Clara. Last season BYU opened league play at Saint Mary’s with an 85-74 loss. The Cougars won their home conference opener 97-61 against Santa Clara one week later. Since joining the league in 2011, BYU has finished third in the league standings three times and tied for second twice.
  • After struggling from downtown through the first nine games of the season, BYU has improved its 3-point shooting over the last four games, shooting 41.3 percent and averaging 8.3 makes per game.
  • Since being inserted into the starting lineup against Utah State, freshman Yoeli Childs has increased his production, averaging 10.7 points, 10.6 rebounds and 2.0 blocks while shooting 64.4 percent from the field.
