QUOTES

BYU head coach Dave Rose

"I'm really pleased with our team. I thought we did some things tonight that heped us get better. It was one of the first games we've played with an opponent that plays that much zone. We got better at attacking it as the game went on. It was good to see mutliple guys hit 3-pointers. Good to see L.J. (Rose) hit a few. I thought TJ (Haws) played great."

"We got some minutes from guys who haven't played a lot and that's good. It helps us develop guys and get them ready for a good opponent on Thursday. I'm looking fowrard to that."

On a quick start for Eric Mika and Yoeli Childs:

"What that shows is that we have guys who understand that the ball needs to go in there. We want to play inside out. Our percentage is so much better that way. Throwing the ball inside to start the game was a pretty good formula."

On what helped the Cougars beat the zone in the second half:

"Nick (Emery) and TJ (Haws) did a really good job of collapsing the zone with a dribble or two and getting two-on-one situations to kick the ball out."

TJ Haws

On whether he likes the wing or point more:

"Either way, I'm just trying to stay aggressive and look for opportunities to make plays, whether that's dishing it off to someone else or scoring."

On whether they felt pressure when Idaho State got within five:

"You can't think that way. We just tried to get into a defensive mentality. We locked it down and got it going again."

Yoeli Childs

On what helped BYU in the second half:

"We just played as hard as we could on every possession. That's what great teams do. We figured things out in the second half and kept playing hard. That defensive mentality of playing hard on every possession is important for us. When we lose, it's because we're trying to outscore teams."

Idaho State head coach Bill Evans

"Cutting the lead in the first half says something about the guys character and their integrity. It's easy to roll when you get down like that. The second half we didn't play with the same urgency and toughness we played with early."

"Those guys are good (Mika and Childs). That's not the first time they've had a good night, and it won't be the last. We tried to trap them a little and it wasn't extremely successful. Our zone is a fairly sophisticated zone, but we got up to high and out of position. We need to stay down and guard."
