Mika named WCC Player of the Week
SAN BRUNO, California – The West Coast Conference has named sophomore center Eric Mika the WCC Player of the Week. Mika led BYU to a 3-0 week, including wins against Princeton (82-73), Coppin State (96-59) and Coastal Carolina (81-65). For the week he averaged 21.0 points, 11.3 rebounds and 2.7 blocks while shooting 61.8 percent from the field (21-34) and 80.8 percent from the free-throw line (21-26).
In the season opener against Princeton, Mika set new career highs with 26 points and 18 rebounds while shooting a career-best 12-of-13 from the free-throw line. Against Coppin State he shot 6-of-8 from the field and 6-of-7 from the line for 18 points. Mika concluded the week with his second double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds against Coastal Carolina. He was especially dominant in the second half, hitting all five of his attempts from the field. Mika also tied his career high of three blocks twice, against Coppin State and Coastal Carolina.
