PROVO, Utah – BYU coach Dave Rose announce today that Colby Leifson has signed a financial aid agreement and will play for the Cougars in 2016-17.

A 6-foot-4 guard from Suwanee, Georgia, Leifson prepped at North Gwinnett High School. As a senior he averaged 17 points and shot 41 percent from 3 and 93 percent from the free-throw line while.

“We’re excited to add Colby to our team,” Rose said. “His skills will compliment the talents of the rest of our team. He has a great attitude and work ethic and we believe he will really help us this season.”

Leifson earned All-Gwinnett County and all-region first-team honors following his senior season. One of the top outside shooters in the state of Georgia, Leifson hit 93 3-pointers in 2015-16, second all-time in a single season in Gwinnett County history.

“I know BYU has a chance to do something special this year,” Leifson said. “I’m excited to be a part of it. After sitting down with the coaches this week, it was a no brainer to make the decision to come to BYU. It felt like home.”

During the AAU season, Leifson played with the Atlanta All Stars. He was also recruited by High Point, Wofford, Gardner Webb and Tennessee Tech.

Following the 2016-17 season, Leifson is planning to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Leifson is the son of Ryan and Jennifer and he has two brothers and one sister.
