PROVO, Utah – BYU basketball coach Dave Rose announced today the signing of high-scoring guard Steven Beo to a National Letter of Intent.

“We’re really excited about adding Steven,” Rose said. “He’s a great competitor and scorer and will give us depth on the guard line."

A 6-foot-3 guard from Richland, Washington, Beo enjoyed a decorated career playing for Earl Streufert at Richland High School. As a junior and senior, Beo was named first-team all-state, was the Tri-City Herald All-Area Player of the Year and the Mid-Columbia Conference Player of the Year.

Beo averaged 26.7 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists as a senior in 2015-16. He led Richland to an 18-5 record, the Mid-Columbia Conference title and the district title.

As a junior, Beo led the state in scoring at 27.7 points per game. He set a Richland High single-game record with 49 points against Wenatchee. Beo earned 4A All-Tournament First Team honors while leading the Bombers to the quarterfinals of the 4A state tournament.

Beo was also a starter during his freshman and sophomore seasons and helped lead Richland to the state tournament each year. As a sophomore, he helped the Bombers to a 25-1 record and a trip to the state title game. Beo was named second-team all-conference and earned 4A All-Tournament First Team honors

In four seasons, Beo helped Richland to a combined record of 80-18 and three trips to the state tournament.

Beo joins the 2016 BYU signing class that also includes Gavin Baxter from Timpview High School, Yoeli Childs from Bingham High School and Connor Harding from Highland High School. Beo and Childs will play for the Cougars in 2016-17 while Baxter and Harding will serve missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints beginning this summer.
