TEAM NOTES

BYU started Kyle Collinsworth, Nick Emery, Chase Fischer, Kyle Davis and Corbin Kaufusi for the fourth consecutive game and 10th time this season. BYU improves to 7-3 with that starting lineup.

BYU’s 58-point margin of victory is the largest for BYU against a Division I opponent, second largest margin all-time. The 33 points allowed are tied for the fewest BYU has allowed in the shot clock era.

The 28-point Cougar lead at halftime is the largest margin at half BYU has held this season. It’s the largest halftime lead since another 28-point lead held over San Francisco on Jan. 3, 2015. The 58-point game-high lead was the largest this season.

The Cougars held San Diego to just 11 points in the first half, the fewest given up in the first half since 10 against Mississippi Valley State during the 2010-11 season. It’s also the 2nd fewest by a BYU opponent under Dave Rose. BYU also held USD to opponent lows in a first half of 16.1 percent shooting, also the 3rd-lowest mark by a BYU opponent under Rose.

BYU hit at least 10 treys (12) for the 9th time this season.

BYU started the game on a 13-0 run before San Diego finally got on the board at the 13:22 mark in the first half. In Thursday’s win over San Diego, BYU never led by more than 8.

BYU head coach Dave Rose

“I think that might be as good as we have ever played with this group. We were really focused on the defensive end and got them to take some tough shots early. We were good at rebounding the ball. Even when they beat us and get the shot they wanted, they had a hard time making them.”

“The key for us was that we were really focused on giving them one shot. I thought we were really active rebounding. They beat us on the boards the other night and we beat them on the boards tonight which I thought was a big part of the success."

“I really liked the way we played offense. There was about a five or six-minute stretch where we fell in love with the three point shot."

“For most of the game we moved the ball from side to side. That second group that came in late in the game was just as as good as the group that played most of the game.”

“If there’s ever a time why a coach acts the way he acts; this should explain it. Both teams come to win every night and its very unpredictable. Everyone wants to predict the outcome of a game before it starts. These kids play and they play hard. They determine what’s going to happen and every night is a new night.”

BYU guard Nick Emery

“I think on Thursday night we didn’t come out ready. We gave them confidence at the beginning of the game and once you give a team like that confidence they’re going to want it even more. I think that’s what we came out tonight with. Those guys a re fighters and they’ll battle back.”

BYU guard Zac Seljaas

“On Thursday we weren’t really prepared. Going in we were a little lazy on defense and offense not hitting our shots. We just really worked on getting ourselves going this game and redeem ourselves from Thursday.”
