Player Notes

Nick Emery scored 31 points to become the only BYU freshman to ever score 30-plus points in back-to-back games after scoring 37 against San Francisco. He joins Mekeli Wesley and Danny Ainge as the only two BYU players with two 30-point games as freshmen.

Emery was in double figures after six minutes of the first half. It was his 22nd game this season in double-figure scoring, the 6th-most by a Cougar freshman. Emery scored at least 20 for the 9th time this season, tying Mark Bigelow for 3rd-most 20-point games by a BYU freshman.

Kyle Collinsworth scored 15 points for his 89th career game in double-figures, good for 10th all-time at BYU, tying Mekeli Wesley. He added 8 assists, 7 rebounds and 1 steal.

Chase Fischer scored 22 points, marking the 15th time this season he has scored at least 20 and 21st time in his career. He hit double figures for the 21st time this season and 42nd time in his career.

With 3 triples, Fischer hit at least 3 treys in a game for the 17th time this season, tied for 2nd-most in a single-season at BYU. He has accomplished the feat 34 times in his career, tying Jackson Emery and Mark Bigelow for 3rd-most in BYU history.

Fischer has now hit a 3-pointer in 16-consecutive games, the 7th longest streak by a BYU player.

Kyle Davis scored 10 points and had 8 rebounds. He has scored in double figures 24 times this season.

Corbin Kaufusi made his 13th start of the season, matching his freshman total from last season. He posted 9 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks.

Team Notes

BYU started a lineup of Kyle Collinsworth, Chase Fischer Nick Emery, Kyle Davis and Corbin Kaufusi. BYU improved to 5-3 with that starting lineup.

After missing their first field goal, the Cougars hit eight consecutive shots to open the game before missing one with 12:19 to go. BYU shot 58.5 percent for the game, its 2nd best percentage of the season.

BYU held Santa Clara without a field goal for 13 minutes in the first half when the Broncos went 0 for 15 over that stretch.

BYU outscored Santa Clara 56-22 in the paint. The 56 points in the paint are the most since scoring 68 in the paint against Adams State earlier this season.

"We played really well not only offensively, but really well together as a team on both ends of the floor. There is no question this is the best back-to-back road trip game that we've played for the season. It's a good time to be playing well."

"We've got another interesting week, next week, playing the same team both nights, once at our place and once at their place. That will be another challenge for us but I was really happy with how we responded to a really disappointing loss last week. Our guys were pretty down and they practiced hard Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. You could tell this was a group that what they needed was exactly what they got. We had a lot of guys playing well and hopefully that can infuse some real energy and spark into our group."

"I think the most important thing is we were alert to personnel. We knew some guys are shooters and some guys are drivers and how to play them. Then when you can bring in multiple players and each guy can recognize that it means you are making some progress. Hopefully we can get deeper and play more guys and play with a lot more energy. The better you play the more guys you can play and hopefully that will continue."
