His season total is now 78, passing Jimmer Fredette’s 2009-10 total for 7th in single-season history at the school. He also set a career high in attempts and makes from the charity stripe, going 14 of 14 from the free throw line.

Kyle Collinsworth finished with 12 rebounds for his 9th game this season with double-figure rebounds and 36th of his career. With 5 offensive rebounds, he passed teammate Nate Austin for most career offensive rebounds at 284 to Austin’s 281. He added 9 points, 4 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks.

TEAM NOTES

BYU started Kyle Collinsworth, Chase Fischer, Nick Emery, Jakob Hartsock and Kyle Davis for the second consecutive game. It’s the fourth different lineup Dave Rose has used this season and BYU drops to 1-1 on the season with that starting group.

BYU trailed inside of 1 minute to play for the 8th time this season, remaining winless on the year in that situation. Cougar teams under Coach Rose drop to 3-89 in that situation.

Pacific snapped a 17-game winning streak in the Marriott Center dating back to a 67-61 loss to Pepperdine on January 5, 2015. The Cougars drop to 11-1 this season at home.

BYU head coach Dave Rose
"Congratulations to Mike and his team. I thought they came in here and had a really good game plan."

"We got off to a good start and shared the ball well, but defensively we were a step slow. Every guy got some confidence in the first ten or twelve minutes of the game. We’ve watched this team over the last three or four weeks and they play everybody really close. We know it’s a team that has really talented individuals that are tough match ups for us. They guard us really well and they’re very physical."

"It’s going to be hard to win games shooting 33% from the field. Then we got frustrated and missed some free throws All in all it’s a disappointing loss, but we’ll get back here on Monday and get ready for next week."

"It was difficult for us early to get stops and then we did a better job adjusting to it. It’s a completely different type of game than we played Thursday night."

"The second half we had a hard time putting the ball in the basket. Sometimes it’s rebounds and sometimes it’s turnovers and sometimes they overwhelm you. If we could have made a handful of baskets in the second half it would have changed things and really helped us, but we couldn’t get anyone going."

BYU guard Chase Fischer:
"We didn’t execute or play well and they played well, that’s pretty much it."

"They wore us down on defense with some of their stuff. I give credit to them, they hit a lot of shots. We didn’t deserve the win tonight."

"We didn’t play well or execute. Nothing good was in that game for us. That wasn’t us.  Give credit to them. Their scouting report was good, they’re physical and tough and hung in there. We just didn’t play well."

"We need to get to practice work on some stuff, move and it’ll make you feel better. I think we need to realize it’s not the end of the season. It’s a devastating loss. I know it hurts everyone in that locker room, but it’s not the end of the world we still have some games to play and there’s some stuff that could happen in this conference. We’ve got to reevaluate ourselves, get back to work, stay positive and look forward to two road games. It’s not going to be easy so we just have to pick ourselves up and get back out there."

BYU forward Kyle Davis:
"They were big physical dudes, who went in there and took the ball. All the credit to them. We just didn’t play well. We didn’t come out and do what we needed to do to win. It was easy to still be excited from our last game. It was sold out. I feel bad we lost for our fans right here."

Pacific Interim coach Mike Burns

On fighting BYU’s tempo:
"We talked about trying to control the tempo. I think in the first 10 minutes of the game, the tempo was in BYU’s pace, but for the last 20 it was in our pace. Our guys have been through so much this year. They are an unbelievably resilient group and I am so proud of them."

On free throw shooting:
"We practice free throw shooting, and we’ve had a couple of games in the past few weeks where free throws have cost us the game. Tonight, our guys stepped up in a big time environment and made big time shots. I’m proud of them."

On bench production:
"We changed our starting lineup today. It was the mentality of the group that contributed to the win. We needed every one of them. We got in foul trouble and had to have guys come in and step up, and they did it."

On winning against a big crowd:
"This is the Marriott Center. This is an NCAA Tournament-type atmosphere. We have two games left in an environment like that: here and Gonzaga. This was their tournament, and they played like it."

On preparation:
"This group practices well. I really thought we were ready to play at San Diego, but San Diego did a great job and got a win. These guys have bounced back all year and they did it again today."
