PROVO, Utah – BYU senior guard Kyle Collinsworth became the NCAA’s all-time career triple-double leader in the Cougars’ 95-81 win against Belmont Saturday in the Marriott Center.

Collinsworth finished the night with 26 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for his first triple-double of the season and seventh of his career. In 2014-15 he set the single-season record and tied the career record with six. Drexel’s Michael Anderson (1984-88) and LSU’s Shaquille O’Neal (1989-92) were the previous career record holders.

The first leg of the record-setting triple-double came with 3:55 left in the first half when Collinsworth posted up on the right block, made a move to the center of the court and scored with his left hand.

The final rebound and assist both came in the final minute of the game. With 57 seconds left in the game, Collinsworth found Nick Emery cutting to the basket for a reverse layup and his 10th assist of the night. Rebound number 10 came seconds later when Belmont missed a 3-pointer from the top of key and Collinsworth secured the ball.

When the game ended Saturday night, Collinsworth was one rebound shy of the triple-double with 26 points, nine rebounds and 10 assists. The triple-double was not made official until Sunday morning when the NCAA approved a 10th rebound and an additional shot attempt for the 6-foot-6 Provo, Utah, native. Collinsworth missed a shot with 2:54 remaining in the first half and made a clear attempt to follow the missed shot with a left-handed tip, which missed and was secured by a Belmont player. Collinsworth was originally not given credit for the offensive rebound or a shot attempt on the tip.
