Dastrup, Haws and Mika to play for the Cougars in 2016-17

PROVO, Utah – BYU coach Dave Rose announced Wednesday that Payton Dastrup, TJ Haws and Eric Mika will return from two-year missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 2016 and play for the Cougars in 2016-17.
Rose also announced today the signing of Gavin Baxter, Yoeli Childs and Connor Harding to National Letters of Intent.

6-10, 230, Forward
Mesa, Arizona / Mountain View HS
- Currently serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Panama
- Played for Gary Ernst at Mountain View High School
- As a senior in 2013-14 led Mountain View to a 21-8 record while averaging 16.5 points and 13.0 rebounds as a senior
- Earned second-team Division I All-Arizona honors from AZcentral.com and first-team All-Tribune by the East Valley Tribune
- Named Mesa All-City Boys co-MVP and earned first-team honors
- As a junior in 2012-13 led Mountain View to an 18-11 record while averaging 18.1 points, 10.9 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 blocks

- A four-time 5A Utah state champion (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014) and a 2013 MaxPreps.com National Champion playing for Quincy Lewis at Lone Peak High School
- Posted career totals of 1,896 points (18.4 ppg) and 264 threes
- As a senior in 2013-14 averaged 25.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.8 steals and hit 95 threes while leading Lone Peak to a 23-3, 11-1 record
- Named the 2014 Mr. Basketball by the Deseret News and the 2014 Utah Gatorade Player of the Year
- Received first-team all-state honors from the Deseret News and the Salt Lake Tribune
- Named the 2014 Valley Player of the Year by the Daily Herald
- Earned 2014 5A Tournament MVP honors

- Played his freshman season at BYU in 2013-14 before serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Italy
- Named to the WCC All-Freshman Team
- Received Silver Honors on the WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll
- Ranked 87th in the nation in offensive rebounds per game
- Ranked 3rd in the WCC in offensive rebounds, 9th in field goal percentage, 14th in rebounding and 22nd in scoring
- Recorded the most offensive rebounds in a season at BYU (93) and averaged the 4th most offensive rebounds per game in a season (2.82)
- In the BYU record book for freshmen, recorded the 8th most points by a freshman (389), 3rd most double-figure scoring games (24); 4th most double-doubles (5), 3rd most double-digit rebound games (6), most offensive rebounds (93), 3rd most rebounds (211), 2nd most free throw attempts (180) and 5th most free throws made (111)
