Final exhibition set for Saturday

PROVO, Utah – BYU basketball will play its second and final exhibition of the preseason when the Cougars host Alaska Saturday in the Marriott Center at 7:30 p.m. MST. The game will be televised live on BYUtv and broadcast on the Cougar IMG Sports Network on KSL Newsradio 102.7 FM and 1160 AM.

BYU opened exhibition play with a 103-75 win over Arizona Christian on Oct. 30. After a back-and-forth half that saw the Cougars and Firestorm tied at 44-all, the Cougars used an 18-0 run early in the second half to pull away. Leading the for BYU were sophomore Jake Toolson (23 points) and freshman Nick Emery (20 points and four assists).

Alaska is an NCAA Division II program that competes in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The Nanooks – 7-19 overall, 4-14 in GNAC action in 2014-15 – play at Nevada on Friday, Nov. 6, before coming to Provo. Ashton Edwards, Almir Hadzisehovic and Joe Slocum were named Preseason All-GNAC in October. Edwards is Alaska’s top returning scorer at 14.2 points per game, while Hadzisehovic chipped in 12.2 points and 5.2 boards per contest. Slocum averaged 10.4 points and 4.1 assists in 2013-14. He sat out 2014-15 as a redshirt.

The Cougars open the 2015-16 season on Friday, Nov. 13, against Utah Valley. The game will tip at 7 p.m. MST and will be televised live on BYUtv and broadcast on the Cougar IMG Sports Network on KSL Newsradio 102.7 FM and 1160 AM.
