Cougars rout European Basketball Academy 102-74

BARCELONA – BYU basketball improved to 3-0 in Spain with a 102-74 win over European Basketball Academy on Monday.

Chase Fischer scored a team-high 22 points and five steals while Kyle Collinsworth added 11 points, 14 assists, five rebounds and three steals. Also scoring in doulbe figures were Kyle Davis (13 points), Corbin Kaufusi (12), Nick Emery (11), Nate Austin (10) and Jake Toolson (10). Jordan Chatman also added nine points and Kaufusi finished with a double-double as he grabbed 10 boards. Kaufusi also had three blocks for the second-straight game.

The Cougars trailed 20-17 at the end of the first quarter and 33-30 with just over four minutes to go in the second. Collinsworth scored on back-to-back layups to give BYU a 34-33 lead, starting a 12-3 run that also included threes by Fischer and Toolson. European Basketball Academy scored the last four points of the quarter to cut the Cougar lead to two at the half, 42-40.

BYU took control early in the third quarter with a 7-2 run that included a three and a layup by Fischer and a basket by Davis for a 49-42 lead. After another Fischer layup gave BYU an eight-point lead at 53-45, European Basketball Academy went on a 6-2 run and played even with the Cougars for the next several minutes to trail 58-54.

A Chatman three was sandwiched by a pair of 2 for 2 trips at the line by Fischer for a 7-0 run as BYU took its first double-digit lead of the game, 65-54. The third quarter ended with the Cougars leading, 71-61.

The start of the fourth was all BYU as the Cougars used a 14-0 run to take an 85-61 lead on European Basketball Academy. Davis scored six points during the run while Kaufusi provided the highlight play with a rim-rattling put-back dunk off a missed three. The Cougars outscored European Basketball Academy 31-13 in the fourth.

BYU plays its fourth and final game of its tour of Spain tomorrow at 12 p.m. MT (8 p.m. in Spain) against CB Castelldefels.
