BYU vs. Eurocolegio Box Score

MADRID – BYU basketball won its first of four exhibition games in Spain, defeating Eurocolegio Casvi 95-74 Wednesday.

“It’s always great to get out and win your first game of the tour,” Rose said. “I thought the guys played well in a very physical game. We played a lot of lineups and the guys were able to find ways to help the team. We look forward to getting back on the floor tomorrow night.”

Five Cougars scored in double figures, led by senior guard Chase Fischer, who scored 16 points while hitting 4 of 9 from three and adding a team-high four assists. Sophomore forward Jamal Aytes, seeing his first live game action since the fall of 2013, was second on the team with 15 points and six rebounds.

Junior forward Kyle Davis posted a near double-double with 12 points and eight boards while freshman Nick Emery added 12 points, hitting 2 of 4 from deep. Seniors Kyle Collinsworth and Nate Austin also came close to registering double-doubles as Collinsworth had 10 points and eight boards while Austin had nine points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

As a team, the Cougars shot 46.2 percent (30-65) from the field while holding Eurocolegio Casvi to 36.1 percent (22-61) shooting. BYU won the rebound battle 54-31 and assisted on 18 of 30 made baskets.

BYU held leads of 20-15 after the first quarter, 52-41 at the half and 70-57 through the third. Eurocolegio Casvi held a large lead of five while the Cougars’ large lead was the final margin of 21. The game featured three lead changes and four ties.

Maybe most promising for BYU was the production of the post players. Austin, Aytes, Davis and Corbin Kaufusi combined to score 39 points and grab 36 rebounds.

The Cougars play their second game of the tour tomorrow at 9 a.m. MT (5 p.m. in Spain) against Albacete Basket.
