Player Notes

Tyler Haws

Haws totaled 33 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in 38 minutes. He scored the most points in a first half this season with 19. It was also the most in a first half since scoring 24 against Pacific on Jan. 30, 2014. Haws became the first BYU player to score 2,700 points in his career with his 13th point in the first half. He needed 139 games to reach 2,700 points and finished with 2,720 career points. It was his 122nd career double figure scoring game, 74th career 20-point game and 15th career 30-point game. It was also his 24th 20-point game of the season, tying Danny Ainge for the fifth most in a season.

He tied Jimmer Fredette with 139 career games played, trailing only Charles Abouo's 141 career games. It was also his 137th game started.

Haws tied Devin Durrant for the top spot at BYU in career free throw attempts with 820 career free throws. His five 3-pointers moved him into 6th alone in career 3-pointers made with 162. He moved into a tie with Abouo for 13th in career offensive rebounds with 178. 

Haws passed Byron Larkin, Daren Queenan and Reggie Lewis for 20th in career scoring. On BYU's season scoring list, Haws finished with the 5th most points in a season with 776. Haws finishes with the 4th, 5th and 6th highest scoring seasons in BYU history over his sophomore, junior and senior years.

Haws' 33 points are the third most in an opening round game in NCAA history. His 13 field goals are tied for the second most and his 23 attempts are tied for the fourth most. His 5 of 9 from 3-point range was the third best 3-point shooting percentage in an NCAA opening round game. He also moved into 9th in career NCAA free throws made at BYU with 16.

Kyle Collinsworth

Collinsworth finished with 8 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists. He moved into 36th in career scoring with 1,140 points. His 10-assist game was the 8th of his season and is the most 10-assist games in a season at BYU. 

Collinsworth moved into 6th in career NCAA rebounds at BYU with 40. He is now tied for 7th with 16 career NCAA assists. His 10 assists are the most ever by a BYU player in an NCAA tournament game and are also an NCAA opening round record topping Greg Beckwith and Tyler Azzarelli's 9 assists.

Chase Fischer

Fischer scored 23 points on 7 of 14 shooting and 6 of 12 from 3-point range. It was the sixth time this season he scored 20 points in a game. His six 3-pointers moved him past Brock Zylstra for 19th in career 3-pointers made with 103. Fischer also became the second BYU player to make 100 3-pointers in a season with 103. It was the 8th five 3-pointer game of the season for Fischer, the second most in a season. It was also the 17th three 3-pointer game which ties Jackson Emery and Jonathan Tavernari for the second most in a season.

His 6 3-pointers are the second most in an NCAA tournament game at BYU and tied for the second most in an NCAA opening round game. His 6 made 3-pointers are also the 7th most in a NCAA tournament career at BYU. His 12 3-point attempts were also the 4th most in an NCAA tournament game at BYU and the second most in the NCAA in an opening round game. 

Josh Sharp

Sharp totaled 4 rebounds, 2 assists and a block.

Corbin Kaufusi

Kaufusi finished with 6 points, 6 rebounds and a block before fouling out with 10 seconds left.

Skyler Halford

Halford had 11 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists. He was 3 of 6 from 3-point range and made a 3-pointer in his 17th consecutive game.

Anson Winder

Winder made the 100th 3-pointer of his career for his 3 points in 4 minutes.

Ryan Andrus

Andrus scored 2 points all from the free-throw line.

Frank Bartley IV

Bartley had 4 points and 5 rebounds in 15 minutes.

Team Notes

Collinsworth, Fischer, Haws, Sharp and Kaufusi started for the 10th consecutive game. BYU is 8-2 with those starters.

Fischer, Haws and Halford scored in double figures for the Cougars. Collinsworth led BYU in rebounds with 7 and assists with 10. 

It was the 12th 10+ 3-pointer game this season which is the most in a season in BYU history.

It was also the third time this season with 10 or more 3-pointers in a half (Chaminade and at USF were the others). The 15 made 3-pointers are tied for the second most 3-pointers in a game at BYU and are the most in an NCAA opening round game topping 12 made by Texas Southern and Mount St. Mary's in 2003 and 2014, respectively. BYU's 51.7 percent from 3-point range is the second best percentage in an NCAA opening round game.

Five of the top eight 3-point shooting games in BYU history came this season with BYU hitting 15 3-pointers four times and hitting 17 once. The Cougars finished with 300 3-pointers made on the season trailing only the 2010-11 season when BYU hit 312 3-pointers.

BYU's 22 assists are the third most in an NCAA opening round game.

It was the first game of the season when BYU scored 90 points and lost.

BYU's 90 points is tied for the third most points in an opening round game and the most by a losing team, while Ole Miss' 94 are the most in an opening round game. The combined 184 points are the most by both teams in an opening round game. The 64 combined field goals are the third most in an opening round game as are the 138 field goal attempts. The 22 3-point field goals are the second most combined and the 52 3-point attempts are the second most as well. The 46 combined assists are the most in an opening round game.

It was the first career NCAA tournament game for Fischer, Kaufusi, Andrus and Toolson. 

Runs

Fischer scored all 8 points in an 8-0 run to begin the game. He hit two 3-pointers and added a layup. 

BYU used a 8-0 run to extend the lead to 11 at 38-25. Haws hit a jumper, Fischer hit three free throws and Halford hit a 3-pointer over the 1:30 in the first half.
