Quotes from the Cougar IMG Sports Network

BYU head coach Dave Rose

Back-to-back losses and rebounding:

"It's a real issue for us. I wish it was as easy as let's just put some bigger guys up there, but it's a little more complicated than that."

"These games have become something that we've got to be better at figuring out how we're going to win when we're not hitting shots and we're not getting to the free-throw line. That's a real key to us being good. We've got to figure out a way to defend better. We were upside down three or four different times on communication issues. There are a lot of things we can see that we need to fix. They're all fixable we just need to deal with a little more urgency here."

Bye week:

"The bye week is always unsettling to me because the routine is different. Sometimes we come out of a bye week and play lights out too so, maybe with this group we evaluate how we handle the next one when it comes through."

Easy buckets near the rim:

"Those are all plays that we've gone over with the guys. They know them and know they're coming and we're focusing so much on trying not to let Dee go off and have a huge night that that emphasis probably is what caused some of the breakdowns. It's a miscommunication and it's a situation where we both end up going to one guy. These guys are smart. They're a real grind-it-out team and you have to kind of have a knockout punch to get them. We got to that point where we came up empty on two or three possessions and then they came back and shrunk that lead and it became a dogfight. We figured out a way to manufacture a way to get a chance to get it into overtime, but it didn't happen tonight."

Luke Worthington

"We've definitely had some really tough losses. This one, a lot like most of the others, was a really close game, came down to the wire and we couldn't make the plays to close it out unfortunately. We know it's not the plays at the end that win it, it's the plays throughout the game. Overall, we've got to play better."

Collinsworth's final shot:

"We all thought he had it. That's a play he makes all the time…That one just didn't bounce his way…It was a really tough play."

Play of BYU's big men:

"Definitely a little better. Collectively we were more than upset after the loss to Saint Mary's, so we kind of committed to each other and made some personal goals to come out here and be aggressive and play the way it's supposed to be played and contribute to our team."

"I think we did play a little better, but we need to play even better."

"Loose balls and rebounds, that is kind of the same story it was at Saint Mary's. We have to go and track them down off the rim…It comes down to rebounds and it has been for a long time. Even our losses early in the season, those teams were great rebounding teams and that's why those games were dropped."

Coach Rose's tone:

Overall not too chipper, not too happy. You know he realizes it's a long season. We've got another game and fortunately we don't have to wait an entire week to play this next one. We need to focus on the next one. Try to play the best we can. Fix the things that are wrong, because there were clearly some things that were very wrong in this one. Fix those things, play more aggressive and try our best to come get a win."
