Player Notes

Haws finished with a season high 35 points and 6 rebounds. Haws was 12 of 13 from the line and 10 of 19 from the field and added 2 assists and a steal.

His 30-point effort is the 12th in his career and ties him with Danny Ainge for fourth most on the BYU career list.

Haws' 3-pointer to maintain a 10-point advantage with 8 minutes left pushed him over the 20-point mark. It was his 55th career 20-point game and third straight. It was also his 96th double figure scoring game and 56th consecutive. Haws also passed 2,100 career points on the night.

The last time BYU won at the Spectrum Terrell Lyday also scored 35 points for the Cougars on Jan. 8, 2000.

Kyle Collinsworth

Collinsworth recorded the first double-double by a Cougar this season going for 20 points and 10 rebounds. He added 4 assists, 3 steals and a block. Collinsworth set a career high in free throws made as he was a perfect 10 of 10 from the charity stripe.

It was Collinsworth's fifth straight game with at least 3 steals and his sixth with at least four rebounds. His steals tied him with Mark Bigelow for 14th on the career list and his 4 offensive rebounds moved him into 17th on the career list.

Chase Fischer

Fischer finished the night with 3 points, 3 rebounds, a steal and an assist.

Nate Austin

Austin tallied 9 rebounds, 5 points, a steal and an assist.

Luke Worthington

Worthington scored 4 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 25 minutes.

Anson Winder

For the sixth-straight game, Winder scored in double figures, finishing with 17 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.

Josh Sharp

Sharp was the first man off the bench and finished with 2 points and a rebound.

Skyler Halford

Halford extended his consecutive free throw streak to 14 and finished with 4 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.

Team Notes

BYU started Collinsworth, Fischer, Haws, Austin and Worthington for the sixth time this season. The Cougars are now 4-2 when that group starts. Winder, Collinsworth, Haws, Austin, Worthington started second half.

Collinsworth, Haws and Winder scored in double figures, while Collinsworth also grabbed 10 rebounds and led the team in assists with 4.

Once again the Cougars scored at least 90 points and won. BYU is now 6-0 when scoring 90 points on the season.

BYU scored 60 points in the second half, its most second half points in a game since scoring 64 against Nevada on Dec. 22, 2009.

Runs

An early 8-0 run gave the Cougars a 12-6 lead with 12:24 left in the first half. Collinsworth scored four points, all from the line, while Winder and Sharp added layups.

A 12-0 run helped BYU take and extend its lead to 58-48. Haws scored 6 of the points, while Collinsworth, Worthington and Halford each added 2 points in the middle of the second half.

With BYU trailing 47-46 with 12:40 left, BYU went on to make 24 straight free throws to help take a 13-point lead and hold on for the 10-point victory. During the streak, Haws made 10, Collinsworth made 4, Halford made 4, Winder made 4 and Austin made 2. In that same time span Utah State was 16 of 19.

BYU is now 2-2 when trailing at half after they came back to defeat Long Beach State and Utah State in the second half.

In the first half the Cougars shot their worst percentage of any half this season at 33 percent, but shot 45 percent in the second half from the field to raise their percentage.

"The guys are really excited about the win. It was a good team win even though we had two or three guys who really stepped up. We didn't shoot the ball very well from the perimeter, and we were a little bit scattered defensively, but what we really did well is find other ways to impact the game."

"I thought it was a good game for about the first 30 mintes. We really got in trouble with consistency. We hit a spell of about six or seven minutes where we played really poorly on both ends of the floor. We turned it over and we couldn't rebound. That period was the difference in the game and that's unfortunate."
