Quotes

BYU head coach Dave Rose

"I thought the game was pretty well played. There wasn't a really good flow to it early in the game. I thought Arkansas-Little Rock did a pretty good job of switching things up and had us scouted pretty well. We got a little passive and didn't really have a good rhythm, but in the second half we did a really good job of attacking them. As we attacked better, I thought the flow of the game was much better. It was a good win for us and I look forward to the next 24 hours to see how our guys will respond and how we can get ready for tomorrow."

On good start in the second half:

"I think that when we get in there, this group's focus is really good and I think that there were a few things we thought we could really exploit. We went right after it in the second half with aggressiveness and then we hit a couple shots and got the crowd involved."

On overall defense:

"I thought we were better tonight. We gave up a couple offensive rebounds early. Our scouting reports early, you only see them play a couple games and early in the season you're a little bit off. As things progress and you get more film, we'll be a little better with that."

On Kyle Collinsworth:

"I thought Kyle was really good defensively and he's really good at sharing the ball on offense. He's still trying to find his spots and see where he's really comfortable, but I thought those two parts of his game were really good. He went in and got two or three big-time rebounds, and you look at those positive things, and I think he's coming around."

On Anson Winder:

"Anson was really good at attacking and that's what he's done at that position. Full court and in transition, he's really good at that spot. Tonight, I thought he was the spark that put the game away. He took us to a really good spot as far as how he attacked."

Anson Winder

On overall effort:

"I think they got us out of our rhythm in the first half. We were playing at a slower pace, but as the game went along we sped up in the second half and played more like ourselves."

On the Trojans getting tired:

"We can sense them slowing down a little bit. They had a little bit tougher time getting off and it was to our advantage. I think that's what happened in the last game, too. That's what we want to do at home. We want to play at a fast pace for 40 minutes and hopefully wear them down at the end."

On being sixth man:

"I'm just trying to come in and do whatever the team needs me to do and do whatever role coach needs me to fulfill. I think coming off the bench as the first or second guy is my role. I come in with whatever the team needs me to do. I've come in with that role and I've embraced it. The most important thing is getting the win."

Nate Austin

On overall defense:

"I thought our defense gave a good effort. We stuck with our principles and we forced them to make tough shots. Arkansas-Little Rock went on a few runs in the second half, but we limited them on the offensive glass."

On play in the post:

"I think Arkansas-Little Rock was overplaying Chase, Kyle and Tyler trying to limit their shot attempts and Luke happened to be wide open. After Luke scored a couple buckets down low, it opened up the whole offense for us."

UALR head coach Steve Shields

"You know they're an explosive, offensive team. They scored 95 points in their first game against a very good Long Beach State team. Dave's teams are always very fast teams, running off of makes and misses. We knew that coming in. When you've got a guy like Haws, who's one of the best guards in the country – and then you've got Fischer and Collinsworth with good length up front – that's a very good team, a very well coached team."

"I've seen in numerous magazines where Haws is ranked as the No. 1 or the No. 2 two guard in the country. He's everything that people say about him. I came out here before the game and saw him out here an hour and a half before the game – the discipline that he has in working on his – there's no wonder he's a great player."

"We like to go into tough environments in non-conference play. Last year we went to Florida, Memphis, Oklahoma. Every year we play in hostile environments and I think that that prepares us for conference play."
