Haws named preseason All-America honorable mention
PROVO, Utah – USA Today Sports released its preseason All-America teams and included Tyler Haws as an honorable mention.
Haws earned honorable mention All-America honors last season from the Associated Press after being named the West Coast Conference Player of the Year and finishing sixth in the country in scoring at 23.2 points per game.
The Alpine, Utah, native enters his senior season with a chance to claim the top spot on BYU’s all-time scoring list. Jimmer Fredette, the 2011 national player of the year, is first on that list with 2,599 career points while Haws is fifth with 1,944 points. Several publications have tabbed the high-scoring guard as an early favorite to repeat as conference player of the year and earn All-America honors.
Haws and the Cougars open the 2014-15 season on Friday at home against Long Beach State. The game is set for 5 p.m. MST and will be televised live on BYUtv and broadcast on the Cougar IMG Sports Network on KSL Newsradio 102.7 FM and 1160 AM.
