Player Notes

Haws finished with 22 points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal. He passed Michael Smith for the seventh most points in a season and now has 700. Haws and Jimmer Fredette are the only two Cougars to have two seasons in their careers with 700 or more points. Haws also tied Justin Weidauer for 16th in career steals (102).

His 20-point game is the 48th of his career and 19th this season. He's tied for ninth with Kresimir Cosic on the season list and still sits in fifth on the career list. Haws also scored in double figures for the 45th consecutive game. The streak is now the fourth longest as he broke a tie with Russell Larson and Jeff Chatman.

Kyle Collinsworth

Collinsworth set career high in points and rebounds as he recorded his first double-double since Jan. 23 against Portland. Collinsworth scored 23 points and grabbed 16 rebounds. He also made three steals and two assists.

The game was his sixth double-double this season and his 16 first half points were the most he's scored in a half this season.

Nate Austin

Austin finished with seven rebounds, two points and a block before fouling out with two minutes left. Austin is now tied with Russell Larson and Trent Plaisted for fifth most offensive rebounds (84) in a season.

Anson Winder

Winder set the BYU record for steals in a conference tournament game with six. He topped Jackson Emery's five steals against New Mexico in 2011. Winder finished one shy of the WCC tournament mark of seven steals in a game. The six steals were also a career high.

Winder finished with 16 points and was a perfect 8 of 8 from the free-throw line. He added two rebounds, three assists and his six steals. It was the fourth straight game Winder has scored in double digits, the longest such streak of his career.

Luke Worthington

Worthington started for the third straight game and scored three points.

Matt Carlino

Carlino finished with 11 points, one rebound and an assist. He passed Kari Liimo for 31st on the career scoring list.

Eric Mika

Mika finished with seven points, four rebounds and a block. He passed Shawn Bradley for the most offensive rebounds in a season by a freshman in BYU history. Mika now has 83 offensive rebounds.

Team Notes

Collinsworth, Winder, Haws, Austin and Worthington started for the third straight game. That group of starters is now 3-0.

Collinsworth, Haws, Winder and Carlino scored in double digits. BYU is now 11-5 this season when four players score in double figures.

The Cougars have now won five in a row and nine of their last 10 games. They also snapped a two-game losing streak in the WCC tournament.

It was the first BYU game without a 3-pointer since Nov. 22, 1996 against Cal State Fullerton. The Cougars had a close call earlier this season against Pepperdine before Winder hit a 3-pointer with 20 seconds left. The streak lasted 577-straight games.

Runs

The Cougars started the game with a 12-2 run to grab an early 12-4 lead. Collinsworth tipped in two baskets, Austin followed another miss with a dunk, Haws hit a jumper and Winder hit four free throws.

After LMU closed the gap to two points, BYU went on a 14-0 run from 14:30 until 10:20. Collinsworth scored eight points and assisted on a Mika layup. Haws hit two free throws before Winder stole a pass and took it in for a layup.

BYU ran its lead to 18 at 39-21 with an 8-0 run that lasted from 6:40 to 5:30 in the first half. Haws scored six points and Collinsworth hit two free throws. LMU cut it to seven points at the half going on a 15-4 run over the final five minutes of the first half.

BYU head coach Dave Rose

"They played really hard and I thought we did a lot of things really well. Offensively, we weren't ourselves. It might have been as big a game as we've won when we've really struggled offensively like we did. It's what LMU does to you. They take you out of your offensive sets and you kind of have to create and make decisions and score. We got huge plays out of our guys and that's how we won it."

"When you take Kyle's offensive rebound effort and energy of getting putbacks to where we missed shots and still got points. That's so important for your psyche getting started. Then you take Anson's defensive presence to start the game, the first 10 or 12 minutes, and that led right to some easy baskets for us. Those two guys gave us a huge lift."

"It's a great team win. It's hard to win these games in these tournaments. It's one of those things where everybody knows everything about everyone and you've still got to figure out a way to get it done."

LMU's defense:

"They're so athletic and they play so different. They're extremely aggressive in trying to take the ball from you, not defending space, but defending the ball."

Tyler Haws

"I thought we were able to get out in transition and get some easy buckets. I was really proud of the way we battled on the offensive end of the glass. We rebounded the ball really well and we got some second chance points and that helped make up for not making any threes."

On Collinsworth's night:

"He was huge. Right out of the gates, he was aggressive and it seemed like he crashed the boards right away on the offensive end. He got a few easy buckets and then was just knocking down shots. We kind of fed off his energy the entire game."

Kyle Collinsworth

"I just stayed aggressive from the start. That was a big part of our game plan to come out and be the aggressor. I've had experience playing big games in tournaments and I just wanted to come out and be aggressive for my teammates."

LMU's zone:

"We were ready for that. We practiced that zone. The key was getting it to the high post and getting it inside once we did that all sorts of things opened up for us."
