Player Notes

Haws finished with 19 points, one rebound, one assist, one block and a steal. The steal moved him into a tie with Robbie Reid for 20th in career steals.

It was the 39th straight game Haws has scored in double figures, the seventh longest streak at BYU. Haws moved into a tie with Brandon Davies for 10th in free throws made in a season.

Kyle Collinsworth

Collinsworth flirted yet again with setting a new career high in points, but finished with 19 including his first 3-pointer in nine games. He also grabbed eight rebounds and had four assists to go with two steals. He has now scored in double figures in 17-straight games.

Eric Mika

Mika finished with his second consecutive double-double and a career-high 13 rebounds. He totaled 13 points and 13 rebounds to go with a block. It was his 21st game scoring in double digits. He is tied with the Tyler Haws for the fifth most by a freshman. Mika grabbed eight first half rebounds. He only topped that number in six entire games this season.

Mika passed Trent Plaisted for second in offensive rebounds by a freshman and now has 72. He trails only Shawn Bradley with 77. His four offensive rebounds also moved him into a tie for the 17th most offensive rebounds in a season, tied with Charles Abouo and Noah Hartsock.

Nate Austin

Austin grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds. His 16th came on the putback dunk which put BYU up 59-55 with five minutes left. Austin finished with four points and a block. He grabbed 10 rebounds by halftime. He has more than 10 rebounds in seven games this year.

Matt Carlino

Carlino scored all of his 11 points in the second half and made each of his three steals after halftime as well. He finished with 11 points, one rebound, nine assists and three steals in 28 minutes off the bench. It was also his third game this season with nine assists and zero turnovers.

He passed Scott Runia for seventh in career assists at BYU and now has 407. Carlino moved into a tie for 15th in season steals, tied with Brandon Davies, Jonathan Tavernari and Marty Haws.

Skyler Halford

Halford finished with two points, a rebound and an assist.

Luke Worthington

Worthington finished with three rebounds in his five minutes on the floor.

Team Notes

Collinsworth, Halford, Haws, Austin and Mika started against San Francisco for the eighth straight game and ninth total. The Cougars are now 7-2 with those five starters.

BYU is 8-4 when four players scored in double figures as Collinsworth, Haws, Mika and Carlino did against San Francisco.

BYU has now won nine straight games at the Marriott Center.

It was the first win of the season when the Cougars scored less than 80 points in a game.

BYU's 7-0 run from 7:02 to 4:27 not only took the lead for the first time in 10 minutes, but also gave the Cougars a six-point advantage which they never relinquished. Haws scored four in the run, while Austin added two and Mika one.

"Tyler is such a big threat, even when he's not on, he's still such a big part of our offense because he creates such tough match-ups for the other team which lends itself to offensive rebounds."

Walters

"There are two teams in our league that have that size and that athleticism. When you talk about Mika, Sharp, Austin, they’re a really big team across the board. I thought Carlino gave them a great lift. Those two 3s really hurt us and got them going. A team at times can start to doubt themselves, but Carlino didn’t let them do that."

"It was a great game. Hopefully people really enjoyed it. I hope to be a part of a lot more of those type of games. We haven’t had a lot of those this year on the road. This is the first time our guys really stepped to them and said, ‘Okay, we’re playing tonight. We’re going to bring it.’ So we made a step in the right direction. Of course you get the loss and you’re disappointed about that, but we took a step forward as a team tonight. We’ve just got to keep moving forward."
