Player Notes

Tyler Haws

Haws finished with 27 points on 9 of 12 shooting from the field. He added five rebounds, two assists and a block.

Haws passed Brandon Davies for eighth in career free throws made. He also passed Mekeli Wesley for eighth on the career scoring list and tied Brock Zylstra for 18th in career 3-pointers made.

Haws moved into 13th ahead of Kresimir Cosic for free throws made in a season and his 20-point night was the 44th of his career and 16th this season. He is fifth in career 20-point games and 13th in 20-point games in one season. It was the 38th consecutive game Haws has scored in double figures – the seventh longest streak in BYU history.

Kyle Collinsworth

Collinsworth tied his career high in steals with five. Collinsworth finished with 18 points after scoring seven of BYU's first 11. He added four assists and three rebounds. It was the 17th straight game he has scored in double figures.

Eric Mika

Mika recorded his third double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds. He also tied his career high in free throws made with seven. It was the 20th time he has scored in double figures, which is the sixth most by a freshman tying Mekeli Wesley's mark.

Matt Carlino

Carlino finished with five points, two rebounds, two assists and a block. He also passed Scott Runia for 43rd place on the career scoring list.

Nate Austin

Austin totaled eight rebounds, two points, a steal and an assist.

Skyler Halford

Halford scored 12 points, grabbed six rebounds and made four assists. His four assists are a new career high and his six rebounds tied his career high.

Anson Winder

Winder grabbed six rebounds and scored a point in his 25 minutes off the bench.

Luke Worthington

Worthington set a career high with seven points. He added two rebounds in his 10 minutes on the floor.

Team Notes

The Cougars started Collinsworth, Halford, Haws, Austin and Mika for the seventh straight game and eighth time this season. BYU is now 6-2 with those starters.

Haws, Collinsworth, Mika and Halford each scored in double figures. BYU is now 7-4 when four players score in double figures.

The win runs BYU's winning streak at the Marriott Center to eight games.

The Cougars tied the team season high for made free throws. BYU hit 31 free throws in one less attempt than against Colorado Mesa.

 “I thought it was a well played game by both teams. I thought our guys did a pretty good job early of tracking down loose balls, and they came out really on attack, and we were really active. We rebounded well. We got into a pretty good scoring rhythm there in the middle of the first half. We were able to keep that going in the second half and it’s a good win and now we will look forward to a big game on Saturday."

Tyler Haws

“I love it when our team jumps out like that and we can get a big lead. I thought our guys just played really well and controlled their guards, and we shared the ball really well and I was just happy tonight."

"I felt like I got in a rhythm and shots were falling and the basket was big."

"I thought we did a really good job. We made it tough on those guards. Brownridge and Clark, they are good players, and they made some tough shots. I thought we did a good job of making them uncomfortable and keeping them in front and not letting them back us down and shoot threes. We just have to continue to get better and keep focusing on that."

Anson Winder

“We knew coming in that they were a really good scoring team, and we saw a glimpse of it in the last game we played against them. They score a lot of points in a short amount of time, so we tried to just control that tempo and not let them get easy shots."

"We didn’t want (Brownridge) to have as many points as he did last game, so we made a conscious effort to guard him as best as we could in the second half and make him shoot as tough a shot as possible.“

Credit to them for taking advantage of bad defense tonight and a little bit of credit to our guys tonight for battling back late to make it somewhat respectable. You can’t give those guys the opportunities like that because that’s what they’re about. We didn’t do our job well enough tonight and credit to BYU for taking advantage of it.”

 “There’s no better scorer. He is really good and has really good touch around the basket. He’s better in the mid-range than any other player in our league and that’s why he’s scoring what he’s scoring.”
