Quotes

BYU head coach Dave Rose

“I thought it was a well played game by both teams. I thought our guys did a pretty good job early of tracking down loose balls, and they came out really on attack, and we were really active. We rebounded well. We got into a pretty good scoring rhythm there in the middle of the first half. We were able to keep that going in the second half and it’s a good win and now we will look forward to a big game on Saturday."

"I think that Anson did a really good job on Brownridge tonight. To hold him without a 3-point field goal is quite an accomplishment. That team is really explosive and has really good shooters, and we were able to hold down Clark and Brownridge and that was part of our gameplan."

On Luke Worthington:

"I think that he just keeps getting better, and in practice he is playing better. Everybody just wants to see that next step, where you get in the game, you produce, you get comfortable and you get more minutes. I think that’s a big spot on our roster where if we get some improved play from Erik, Nate, and Luke down the road this team can really improve."

Tyler Haws

“I love it when our team jumps out like that and we can get a big lead. I thought our guys just played really well and controlled their guards, and we shared the ball really well and I was just happy tonight."

"I felt like I got in a rhythm and shots were falling and the basket was big."

"I thought we did a really good job. We made it tough on those guards. Brownridge and Clark, they are good players, and they made some tough shots. I thought we did a good job of making them uncomfortable and keeping them in front and not letting them back us down and shoot threes. We just have to continue to get better and keep focusing on that."

Anson Winder

“We knew coming in that they were a really good scoring team, and we saw a glimpse of it in the last game we played against them. They score a lot of points in a short amount of time, so we tried to just control that tempo and not let them get easy shots."

"We didn’t want (Brownridge) to have as many points as he did last game, so we made a conscious effort to guard him as best as we could in the second half and make him shoot as tough a shot as possible.“

Santa Clara head coach Kerry Keating

“Anytime you give them easy baskets, especially here, you’ve got no chance. Credit to them for taking advantage of bad defense tonight and a little bit of credit to our guys tonight for battling back late to make it somewhat respectable. You can’t give those guys the opportunities like that because that’s what they’re about. We didn’t do our job well enough tonight and credit to BYU for taking advantage of it.”

“They’re good. They’re a really good team. They’ve been a good program for a long, long time. Playing in this building is something special that no one else in our conference is afforded the opportunity to do.”

On Tyler Haws:

“There’s no better scorer. He is really good and has really good touch around the basket. He’s better in the mid-range than any other player in our league and that’s why he’s scoring what he’s scoring.”
