Player Notes

Haws finished with 16 points after sitting on the bench for most of the first half. He added three assists and a rebound to his point total.

Haws passed Lee Cummard for 12th in career scoring and Mark Bigelow for 10th in career free throws made. He also scored in double figures for the 33rd straight game, which is tied for the eighth longest streak in BYU history with John Fairchild.

Kyle Collinsworth

Collinsworth led the Cougars with 18 points. He also totaled seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Eric Mika

Mika finished with 10 points, six rebounds and two assists. Mika scored in double figures for the 17th straight game and 17th time this season. The streak is the second longest by a freshman and the total is the ninth most for a freshman at BYU.

Skyler Halford

Halford totaled 10 points, one rebound and an assist.

Nate Austin

Austin grabbed seven rebounds and made two assists to go with his two points.

Matt Carlino

Carlino finished with 15 points, nine assists, two rebounds, a block and a steal for one of everything. He has hit three 3-pointers in three straight games and recorded the most assists by a player off the bench this season.

Carlino's first three points came on a three-point to get him to the 1,000 point mark in his career. He did it in his 81st game as a Cougar, one more than it took Jimmer Fredette. With his third 3-pointer, Carlino moved into a tie for 10th with Mark Heslop in career 3-pointers made. Carlino also passed Lee Cummard in assists for eighth in career assists at BYU.

Josh Sharp

Sharp finished with six rebounds, four points and a block.

Anson Winder

Winder finished with 16 points, all of which came in the first half. He also totaled three rebounds and an assist. Winder scored 10 straight points for the Cougars during a 12-4 run that pushed the lead to double digits at 20-10 with 11:01 left in the first half. His 16 points in the first half were the most since he scored 17 in a half against Buffalo on Dec. 20, 2011.

Team Notes

Collinsworth, Halford, Haws, Austin and Mika started for the third straight game. BYU is 3-0 with those starters.

BYU had four or more double digit scorers for the eighth-straight game and had six in one game for the first time since Colorado Mesa on Nov. 16, 2013 and the fourth time this season. Winder, Collinsworth, Carlino, Haws, Mika and Halford scored in double digits on Saturday night. After only five assists against San Francisco, BYU had six in the first 9:30 against Santa Clara. The Cougars finished with 22 assists on 32 field goals.

BYU hit five straight 3-pointers to start the game.

Thanks to Carlino and Winder's nights off the bench, BYU had the second-most points from its bench this season. BYU scored 35 points, the most in conference play, and the most since scoring 38 against Mt. St. Mary's.

BYU shot a season-high 61.5 percent from the field. It's the third time the Cougars have shot above 60 percent this season (Mount St. Mary's, Prairie View A&M).

Runs

A 6-0 run gave BYU a 7-4 lead in the early going. Collinsworth hit a free throw, Halford nailed a long 3-pointer and Mika scored on an easy dunk off a Collinsworth pass.

A 10-0 run from 7:32 to 5:34 in the first half was good for a 36-19 lead and morphed into a 19-2 run with Carlino scoring nine, Mika four, Winder four and Collinsworth two.

BYU head coach Dave Rose

"It's a great weekend for the guys and they deserved it. They played really well. We did so many things in this game that were a little bit different than what we normally have to do."

"Tonight with Tyler Haws getting his second foul as quick as I've ever seen, these guys bailed me out tonight. When that happens you have to make some adjustments and you have to change your lineup, change your game plan a little bit. It was really easy for a coach. We put Anson (Winder) in and Anson was just terrific. He played all 19 minutes, scored the ball really well and was really good contesting threes."

"In the second half, (Haws) came in and was good. That's a hard thing to do. You sit the whole first half and he got right into a good offensive flow. The game went back and forth from the 20-point mark, that kind of was the barrier here, but the guys really gutted it out and got a big road win."

"There are so many plays, big rebounds here and there, there were a couple, two or three, shots from our team that we could go back and evaluate and then some defensive possessions that got away from us, but Matt and Anson defensively in the top of the zone in the first half were really good."

On Carlino's production off the bench:

"Matt's numbers the last three games have been so good, but that really doesn't tell the whole story. He's been such a big part of the positive flow of our game."

"Nine assists and no turnovers in a game like this is, when there's a lot of possessions, is really terrific."

On Anson Winder:

"I was just watching him because even when I was out on the floor. He was just pulling up. He knew he was doing that. All the guys off the bench – I'm one of those guys – expect to do that. We expect them to do that too. He had a big night tonight. He sparked our team and it was good for us."

"We haven't lost, so it's good. I'm fine with coming off the bench. I'm comfortable. I think the team's comfortable. We're winning and we're playing well, so it's all good."

Perspective coming off the bench:

"Right now i'm pretty calm, pretty relaxed, maybe the bench has changed it a little bit, but my approach to the game in general has changed a little bit. I don't know, maybe the bench has done that. I've just taken a lot of pressure off myself and it's been good."

3-point shooting:

"I'm going to say something did change. It's come a lot from how I'm just more calm. All my shots are way more in balance than before. I was shooting off balance threes, just really tough shots. The threes I'm shooting now are in rhythm, on-balance shots. I think that's really helped my 3-point percentage a lot."
