SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named BYU junior guard Tyler Haws its Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 13, 2014.

Haws averaged 33.0 points while leading BYU to wins over Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount. For the week, Haws shot 47.6 percent from the field, 57.1 percent from 3-point range and 95.7 percent from the free throw line.

In the 84-72 win over Pepperdine, Haws scored a season-high 35 points on 11 of 23 shooting, including 4 of 6 from behind the arc. The 35 points were the most by a WCC player this season. He was a perfect 9 of 9 from the free-throw line and at one point scored 11 straight points for BYU in the second half to help the Cougars turn a 64-60 advantage into a 75-62 lead. Haws had 13 points in the first half and 22 in the second.

In the 91-68 victory over Loyola Marymount, Haws scored 31 points, including 24 in the second half. He was 13 of 14 from the free-throw line and totaled four rebounds, three steals, two blocks and an assist. During a key stretch in the second half, Haws had two steals and a block on three-straight possessions that fueled a 7-0 run that turned a 42-40 deficit into a 47-42 lead. Later in the second half he keyed a 9-0 run that broke a 58-all tie with back-to-back jumpers and a steal that led to a 3-point play for Josh Sharp.
