Player Notes

Haws totaled 17 points, three rebounds and two assists. He passed Kresimir Cosic in career free throws made for 12th place all-time at BYU.

Skyler Halford

Halford set six career highs and tied two more in his first start of the season. He led BYU with 28 points and grabbed two rebounds while dishing out three assists. He set career highs in points and first half scoring, 3-pointers made and attempted, and field goals made and attempted. He tied his career highs in assists and rebounds. He also tied a season high for minutes played with 26.

Kyle Collinsworth

Collinsworth finished with 12 points, eight assists, seven rebounds and a steal.

Eric Mika

Mika limped off with a bruised hip with 16:25 left in the game, but still totaled 13 points, three rebounds, two assists and one block.

Matt Carlino

Carlino totaled six points, four assists, two rebounds and a steal in his first game coming off the bench this season. With his four assists, Carlino passed Austin Ainge in career assists and is now ninth all-time at BYU. He also tied Lee Cummard for 10th in career steals.

Anson Winder

Winder came off the bench and hit two 3-pointers. He finished with eight points and a rebound.

Team Notes

For the first time this season BYU head coach Dave Rose started Collinsworth, Halford, Haws, Austin and Mika. That lineup is now 1-0.

BYU had four double digit scorers on the night in Haws, Halford, Mika, Collinsworth.

BYU recorded 25 assists in the win. The Cougars average 21 assists in a win this season.

Runs

The Cougars built their lead on a series of runs throughout the game.

A 14-2 (Halford 6 points, Haws 4, Collinsworth 2, Carlino 2) and 9-0 (Halford 5, Mika 4) run to close out the half gave BYU a 41-23 lead at halftime.

BYU added 10-2 (Halford 4, Mika 3, Collinsworth 3) and 8-0 (Collinsworth 3, Haws 2, Austin 2, Sharp 1) runs in the second half to extend the lead all the way to 37.

That was a great effort from our guys. I think that the focus that they had in practice for the last three days - kind of the intensity and urgency that they played with - they carried it over to the game tonight. I thought defensively it was our best effort of the year. Hopefully we can build on this because it was a well-executed game plan from start to finish. We shared the ball on offense, got open shots, made open shots. I thought defensively we made them take tough shots and that's a big key for us.

Skyler Halford

I'm just trying to do my best when I'm in there and help our team win. It was a good game for us as a team.

When you get in a groove and shots start falling and you feel good, the basket just keeps getting bigger and bigger. We've got a lot of guys on this team that can really stroke it. Every night's going to be a different night for somebody.You never know who's going to step up.

Teammates were great tonight, driving and kicking, getting me open looks. I was just the fortunate one to be in the open spot and to shoot the three.

Kyle Collinsworth

We started out with the lead so we didn't have to come from behind. At halftime we were up by 18 or so. I think that was the key. Tonight we focused on defense and we let our offense just come.

I think that's a good sign if we play a lot of man. That means that it's working because we started man. So, if we played a ton of man, I think that's a good sign for us because that means we don't have to play into zone.
