Quotes
BYU head coach Dave Rose
"I thought we came out with good energy. I thought that our guys responded really well in an uncertain situation with Tyler. I think our guys adjusted really well. Anson came in and had a great game filling in for Ty and the rest of the bench stepped up. Guys got a lot of playing time and they responded with really positive nights."
"We look forward to tomorrow and hope we can repeat this game and come out with a lot of energy and see if we can improve a little bit on execution."
"I think everybody needs to get used to the flow, because the flow is way different. A lot of it is because of the fouls being called. We shot 30 free throws and they shot 18. That’s a really big adjustment for our guys. I really think you have to push the issue to have a decent flow to the game."
"I thought Anson was so active. He seemed to always be in the right spot. He got himself quite a few rebounds and hit a couple threes. Breaking that press allowed us to get a lot of easy shots tonight."
"All in all, I think the best thing from this game is a lot of young guys got a lot of minutes and they produced."
On how the team played tonight:
"I think we moved the ball well. We all played with a lot of confidence today and we shared the ball. I don’t know how many assists we had exactly, but I think we had a ton."
On playing without Tyler Haws tonight:
"I think we all knew coming in we would have bigger roles tonight because Tyler is such a key to our team and he scores so many of our points. We all knew we had to step up tonight and I feel like we did that."
How has the team been playing so far this year?
"We are all playing as free and confident as we can. The coaches have instilled a lot of confidence in us and I think it shows. Hopefully we can keep it up."
On the new rules and fouls:
"It’s hard to get used to but we are focusing in on it in practice. I think I’ll figure it out."
How has the transistion to college basketball been?
"We play really similar to how I played last year so that’s really been helping me out."
On not having Tyler Haws in the lineup tonight:
"We all knew we were going to have to fill a couple gaps in the scoring but we knew we were all capable scorers and that if we just moved the ball that’s what we would do."
Mount St. Mary's head coach Jamion Christian
"I have always had so much admiration for BYU basketball, I'm trying to build our program at Mount St. Mary's and playing against programs like this that have been able to move themselves around to different leagues, that's something all young coaches should be trying to do at this level. I thought the best way to show that to our guys was to have them step onto the floor and see how talented and how good BYU really is."
"We won't be affected by this loss negatively at all. I have four seniors that leave it on the floor everyday and I admire how they play. Because of that I know they're going to respond to this loss very well."
"I love how BYU plays. Hopefully everyone that is a BYU fan out there really understands what a great team they have, how hard they play, how talented they are, how well they play together, it's really admirable."
"Mika is an unbelievable player. All the hype is well deserved. His ability to really make plays and finish above the rim, especially with how young he is, is really important."
