PROVO, Utah – BYU basketball coach Dave Rose announced today that Matt Carlino, Kyle Collinsworth and Tyler Haws have been named team captains for the 2013-14 season.

“We’re excited about the leadership we have this season,” Rose said. “We have a very talented and motivated group. We'll look to the examples of Tyler, Matt and Kyle as we work to achieve our team goals."

Haws, a 6-foot-5 junior guard, led BYU in scoring last season and was seventh in the nation at 21.7 points per game. He set several Cougar sophomore scoring records including total points (780), points per game (21.7) and games with 20-plus points (25). Haws earned All-West Coast Conference honors and was named first-team all-district by the United States Basketball Writers Association and the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

The 6-foot-2 junior guard is BYU’s career leader in assists per game at 4.7 and third in steals per game at 1.6. Carlino played his best basketball of last season during BYU’s run to the NIT semifinals when he averaged 18.0 points, 8.0 assists and 6.3 rebounds and made 18 threes in four games.

Collinsworth started as a freshman on BYU’s 2011 Sweet 16 team before serving a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Russia. The 6-foot-6 guard proved to be a versatile player in 2010-11 as he averaged 5.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals. The Provo, Utah, native played four positions as a freshman and posted season highs of 16 points, 15 rebounds, six assists, four steals and three blocks.
