Haws, USA open World University Games with rout of UAE

KAZAN, Russia – Tyler Haws and his USA teammates opened the World University games with a 140-46 rout of United Arab Emirates.

Haws became the first Cougar since Devin Durrant in the 1983 World University Games to don the red, white and blue in international competition on Sunday as he totaled four points, seven rebounds and two assists. He hit 1 of 3 from the field and 2 of 2 from the free throw line. Haws battled foul trouble throughout the game and he finished with four fouls in 11 minutes.

The game was never in doubt as the USA led 35-16 after the first quarter, 69-23 at the half and 100-34 after the third quarter. Team USA shot 56.1 percent from the field (55-98) and out-rebounded UAE 70-23.
