Fischer to transfer to BYU

PROVO, Utah – Dave Rose has announced the addition of 6-foot-3 guard Chase Fischer to the BYU basketball roster. Fischer, who played the last two seasons at Wake Forest, will sit out the 2013-14 season due to NCAA transfer rules and have two years of eligibility remaining.

"Chase will bring a lot to our team," Rose said. "He has deep range and a great ability to score the basketball. His knowledge of the game and his leadership abilities will help make us a better team. We’re excited to have Chase in our program for the next three years."

A native of Ripley, W.Va., Fischer enjoyed a storied career at Ripley High School before playing at Wake Forest. In 2011 he was a first-team Parade All-American and the Gatorade Boys Basketball Player of the Year for the state of West Virginia. A four-year starter, Fischer finished his high school career with 2,210 points – 10th all-time in the state.

Fischer led the state of West Virginia in scoring during his junior and senior seasons with averages of 32.0 and 37.0 points per game, respectively. He hit 142 threes as a senior and finished second in the inaugural High School 3-Point Championship held during the 2011 NCAA Final Four in Houston.

As a freshman at Wake Forest in 2011-12, Fischer started threes games, averaged 6.3 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists, and hit 39 threes. He scored in double figures nine times and hit two or more threes 12 times.

Prior to his sophomore season in 2012-13, Fischer was voted a team captain by his teammates. He averaged 4.3 points and 1.1 rebounds in 2012-13 while improving his 3-point shooting percentage to 42.2, up from 32.0 percent his freshman season. He scored in double figures five times, including career highs of 15 points and five made threes against High Point.

In his two seasons at Wake Forest Fischer played in 62 games, started six times and averaged 5.4 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.

Fischer is the son of John and Robin Fischer and was born in Coral Springs, Fla. His older brother Noah played college basketball at Marshall and Charleston.
