Focus on finishing on Day 3

PROVO, Utah - On the third day of fall camp the team switched to a morning practice format and continued to get a lot of work done. During the team sessions of practice the focus was on finishing the play, aided by no whistle being blown immediately.

"It's another focus on cleaner play and more guys involved on each play. I really like what I have seen for three days," head coach Bronco Mendenhall said. "Even though that doesn't seem like a significant thing it shows up on film and a lot of different ways that we think are positive."

Mendenhall referenced the idea that camp is "more of a marathon than a sprint" in regards to another day of just helmets and no shoulder pads yet. The team is still on pace to go full pads on Tuesday.

Several players showed well during the team 11-on-11 segment. Quarterback Riley Nelson was sharp with quick passes to running back Michael Alisa and then connected for a gain over the middle to diving wide receiver Cody Raymond for over 20 yards. Nelson went right back to Raymond for another completion of 10 yards.

Running backs David Foote and Adam Hine also got reps out of the backfield today.

Sophomore defensive back Craig Bills was singled out by Mendenhall as a player that has impressed him. Bills played in all 13 games with one start as a true freshman in 2009 and has returned from his LDS mission for the 2012 season. Sophomore defensive back Jordan Johnson was another player that was praised for his increased maturity this season and has continued to do well. Senior Preston Hadley put in a good showing, breaking up a pass in the last drive of the team portion of practice.

The Cougars finished up their first three days of practice this week and will take Sunday off before returning to work Monday and the first scheduled day of two-a-days on Wednesday.
