Hansen Preseason All-America, 17 All-Independent Honorees

CLEVELAND, Ohio –  BYU senior offensive lineman Braden Hansen was selected to Phil Steele's Preseason All-America Third Team announced Thursday. Hansen is also one of 17 Cougars honored with a Preseason All-Independent selection. Phil Steele’s 2012 College Football Preview Magazine, hits newsstands June 5th.

Hansen, a 6-foot-6, 313-pound product of Sandy, Utah, has started 39 consecutive games for BYU, helping lead the team to a 28-11 record over the past three seasons. As a junior in 2011, Hansen was named to the Outland Trophy Watch List and was part of an offensive line that was No. 9 nationally in tackles for loss allowed and No. 24 in total sacks allowed. During his sophomore year Hansen led the Cougars in knockdowns and was named to the Phil Steele All-Mountain West Conference Second Team and was a College Football News All-Sophomore Team honorable mention. In 2009 as a freshman, Hansen was named to the Football Writers Association of America Freshman All-America First Team and Phil Steele All-Freshman First Team while earning a College Football News Freshman Team honorable mention.

BYU earned 18 total selections from 17 players on the Preseason All-Independent Teams, second to Notre Dame's 20 selections. Wide receiver Cody Hoffman earned First Team honors as a wide receiver and was a Second Team selection at kick returner.

Along with Hansen and Hoffman's selections, quarterback Riley Nelson and offensive lineman Braden Brown were selected to the First Team offense. Wide receiver Ross Apo, tight end Marcus Mathews and offensive lineman Houston Reynolds were Second Team selections.

On defense, linebackers Brandon Ogletree and Kyle Van Noy, cornerback Preston Hadley and safety Daniel Sorensen were named to the First Team. Defensive linemen Eathyn Manumaleuna and Romney Fuga and linebacker Uona Kaveinga garnered Second Team honors.

Kicker Justin Sorensen, punter Riley Stephenson and JD Falslev were First Team special teamers, along with Hoffman's Second Team selection.
