Ogletree Named to Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -- BYU senior linebacker Brandon Ogletree has been named to the 2012 Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List.

Named after Pro Football Hall of Fame member Ronnie Lott, The Lott Trophy is awarded to college football’s Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year for excellent performance both on and off the field. This year's list features 42 of the most accomplished student-athletes in the country.

A 5-foot-11, 228-pound inside linebacker, Ogletree has started 20 games over the past two seasons for the Cougars. A senior from McKinney, Texas, Ogletree led BYU with 76 total tackles including 36 solo takedowns. He helped the Cougars to a No. 13 national ranking in total defense, its fifth 10-win season in the last six years, and a third consecutive bowl victory. Ogletree also added 4.0 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one interception.

An American studies major, Ogletree earned 2011 Phil Steele All-Independent Second Team honors and was an honorable mention on the FBS All-Independent Team. He also garnered Academic All-Mountain West accolades in 2009 and 2010. Ogletree speaks Spanish and served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Concepcion, Chile.

 Founded in 2004 by The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation, The Lott Trophy is the first and only college football award to equally recognize athletic performance and the personal character attributes of the player. This is the ninth year the IMPACT Foundation has recognized student-athletes throughout the nation who have the biggest IMPACT on their teams both on and off the field. IMPACT is an acronym for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity—characteristics Lott exhibited throughout his Hall of Fame career at both USC and in the National Football League. 

To date, the Foundation has donated more than $900,000 to various charities throughout the country, including $327,000 to 28 universities. Voters for the award include selected members of the national media, previous finalists, the Board of Directors of the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation, distinguished former college coaches and players and the IMPACT Board of Advisers. Voting for the Lott IMPACT Trophy will take place throughout the season with the winner announced at the annual black-tie awards banquet Dec. 9 at the Pacific Club in Newport Beach.
