Spring Ball Winding Down

PROVO, Utah - Spring football is nearing a close for the BYU football team and players and coaches are making preparations for summer workouts and gearing up for next fall.

"We've seen enough and know enough at this point," head coach Bronco Mendenhall said. "We have found backups here and there and are shifting toward getting ready for our player-run practices."

With the focus on now preparing for player-run practices and summer workouts, several veteran players were seeing a little bit of time with the clipboard in hand. Players directed drills and took part in teaching moments, along with getting reps on the practice field.

"With this team and the leadership we have this year, we think this will be one of our best summers," Mendenhall said.

During the 7-on-7 "skelly" portion of practice wide receiver Cody Raymond fully extended for a diving catch at the goal line for about 30 yards from quarterback Riley Nelson. Marcus Mathews then completed the drive with a short touchdown catch two plays later.

Defensive back Cameron Comer had a productive day as well, intercepting quarterback Alex Kuresa and nearly picking off another pass. Earlier in the skelly drills, quarterback Taysom Hill hooked up with wide receiver Skyler Ridley for a 30-yard touchdown.

BYU will have one more practice on Friday before ending spring ball and turning its attention to the summer and fall camp.
