PROVO, Utah - Outside for the first time this spring, the BYU football team held its third day of practice on Thursday.

After the first two days saw the Cougar defense with a slight edge, the offensive side scored its first touchdown of the spring on its final possession. Junior Cody Hoffman made the play of the day, making a catch along the sideline after jumping fully outstretched and getting a foot down for a 26-yard gain.

Junior running back Michael Alisa had a 26 yard gain after catching a pass from Riley Nelson and juking out a defender before heading downfield. The drive culminated with a five-yard pass to Hoffman for the touchdown.

"[Cody] has had a really, really good offseason," said BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall. "It's similar to Kyle Van Noy. They're both great players but each year they become more responsible, they're smart, they do a great job in the classroom and it's fun to see their progress. Cody has done a really, really good job this offseason especially."

Nelson went 5 for 5 for 60 yards on the drive and went 9 of 10 for 86 yards overall.

The Cougars will practice in pads for the first time starting on Friday.
