PROVO, Utah - The BYU football team continued preparations for the 2012 season with its second day of spring football on Tuesday afternoon.

Players participated in a 21-period practice lasting two hours or so. The team again began with various position drills and did a few scrimmage sessions. Some of the sessions were spent in "skeleton" format with no offensive or defensive lineman participating. Later on, the Cougars went to a full 11-on-11 team scrimmage near the end of practice. After the scrimmage was over the defense continued for another 20 minutes or so doing some conditioning work.

Highlighting the 11-on-11 portion was quarterback Riley Nelson getting the offense to a 4th-and-1 play after a nine yard scamper. Nelson then found tight end Marcus Mathews for seven yards to pick up the first down. The drive fell short however a few plays later on an incomplete pass.

Four different quarterbacks took snaps during the scrimmage, including Nelson, senior James Lark, freshman Taysom Hill and sophomore Ammon Olsen.

BYU won't practice on Wednesday but will pick up again with its third practice of the spring on Thursday afternoon.
