PROVO, Utah - The BYU football team began its spring session of practices with a two-hour run through Monday in the Indoor Practice Facility as the Cougars begin preparation for the 2012 season.

Coming off a 10-3 season and Armed Forces Bowl victory in its first season as an Independent, BYU's first of 15 practices this month featured energy from both the offensive and defensive sides.

The Cougar defensive unit held the edge on day one, highlighted by multiple sacks from defensive lineman Ian Dulan and a pass breakup across the middle  by safety Mike Hague.

Senior Riley Nelson complete 1 of 4 passes in the final team session for minimal yardage while senior James Lark went 4 for 5 for 41 yards, including the longest pass of the day to tight end Trevor Brown.

Freshman Taysom Hill was also given a final series, going 1 for 2 on a seven-yard completion to Cody Raymond.
