Kariya Named Academic All-District Again
PROVO, Utah - BYU senior running back Bryan Kariya was named to the Capital One Academic All-District 8 Team on Thursday.
Kariya is a Chinese major and business management minor with a 3.90 GPA and plans to attend dental school upon graduation. Last season, Kariya was the only running back from a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) school to earn Academic All-America recognition.
The Kaysville, Utah, native has 185 yards on 51 carries for a 3.6 yard-per-carry average and two touchdowns. The senior captain also has 81 yards and one touchdown through the air this year.
Kariya is now eligible to earn Academic All-America honors for the second year in a row. The national team will be announced on Dec. 8.
If selected, Kariya would be the seventh Cougar to be named an Academic All-American twice. Six Cougars in the last three years, including Kariya, have been named Academic All-Americans, the second-most behind Penn State among all FBS schools during that period.
