PROVO, Utah - The Utah Valley Chapter of the BYU Management Society will honor LaVell Edwards as the fourth recipient of the Pioneer in Leadership Award. The award gala and scholarship fundraiser will be held on Friday, November 18, at 7 p.m. at the Provo Marriott Hotel & Conference Center.

The award gala will feature entertainment by Lokalgrown and a keynote address by hall of fame coach LaVell Edwards.  The evening will also feature tributes by Chad Lewis, BYU associate athletic director, and Mike Jacobsen, UVU director of athletics, both former players of coach Edwards.

The Utah Valley Chapter created the Pioneer in Leadership Award to recognize contemporary pioneers that exemplify courage in adversity and integrity in leadership. The award gala is held to raise scholarship money for deserving BYU and UVU students. Since the Utah Valley Chapter began awarding scholarships in 2000, more than $70,000 has been awarded to business students at both schools. Past recipients of the Pioneer in Leadership Award include Glenn Beck, Dieter F. Uchtdorf and Stephen R. Covey.

In 29 seasons as the head coach at BYU, Edwards recorded 257 victories, the sixth highest total in Division I college football history. Under his direction the Cougars won a national championship, 19 conference titles and appeared in 22 bowl games. He was twice honored as the national coach of the year and is recognized across the country for the integrity and class he brought to the profession.
