Fall Camp Continues
PROVO, Utah – With 1,069 fans in attendance the BYU football team had its last open practice of fall camp Tuesday.
Fans were able to watch players continue to learn their positions and work on various drills. The defense spent a lot of time working together doing sprints and other speed work. Offensive players worked on formations and route running. All players continued to work on conditioning.
In a spirited team session at the end of practice, both offense and defense continued to push back and forth with various playmaking on both sides.
“I think camp has gone really well; the defense is making progress,” head coach Bronco Mendenhall said. “Overall today, I’m talking both sides, I think it was a bit inconsistent.”
The first series featured the running game of JJ Di Luigi and Joshua Quezada picking up a first down. Linebackers Kyle Van Noy and Spencer Hadley combined for a sack to force a long third down attempt. The drive ended with an incompletion from quarterback Jake Heaps.
On Heaps next series, however, the sophomore led the offense to the end zone, highlighted by a 23-yard strike to receiver McKay Jacobson. The play set up a 12-yard touchdown run by Quezada.
Quarterback James Lark led another successful touchdown drive with the help of running back David Foote’s two carries for 14 yards. Lark later connected with tight end Marcus Mathews for a 36-yard touchdown.
